Obama will be the best for singles because we deserve to be viewed as individuals.

I always categorized myself as a feminist, even when I was a young, married stay at home Mother. I thought my views were forward thinking and a true testament to the feminist view.

I was a stay at home Mother of three, with a degree in Early Childhood and working on a degree in Culinary Arts. I had a choice to stay home or to work outside of the house and I chose to stay home. It was my choice.

Now, so many years later, I see that even though I had made that choice for my family and myself it was not a feminist stand but more of a road map to destruction. When I divorced, I found myself alone, broke, a single parent, and battling life choices I had never considered.

I have judiciously listened to both sides of the platform. Born and raised a devout Democrat, I naturally sway that way. I shall be doing so again this election.

Obama represents a broader audience. He represents the African-American community and leads them by example- make the right choices in life and someday you, too, can be a great leader.

He supports the gay and lesbian community and teaches us the lesson in humanity that we should not judge another for whom they choose to love.

He encourages us as Americans to educate ourselves and become better humans.

He challenges us to think outside of the box, beyond our own limits.

He recognizes that women should be the keepers of their own health choices, whether that is birth control, health care, or abortion. That woman is entitled to equality in every sense of the word.

He implores us to create better ways to change the welfare system, healthcare system and the American budget.

As a single woman in my early forties, these are all things I have to consider.

I have a college age daughter who should have a reproductive choice, equal pay, and proper health care. I have a gay son who should love who he chooses. I want to know that as a chef I am making the same amount of money as my male counterparts, that I am receiving the same respect and care as men in my world as a whole.

Yes, the economy matters to me as a single woman. I worry about taxes and unemployment, and a well-balanced budget. However, without my basic human needs cared for, the taxes and the unemployment do not really matter because I cannot see beyond my own personal needs.

Without the trees, there is no forest.
