Marriage: A Legal Binding

The reason for marriage changes not only from culture to culture but also in time. The protection of bloodlines, religion, economic liaisons, and a way bind women to men in order to confirm legitimacy of their heir, are few of many reasons why marriage was and is practiced.Few reasons mention love.

Marriage these days usually have consent from both individuals in America. However,in other parts of the world, arranged marriages have been practiced for centuries and have, initially, virtually nothing to do with love considering the individuals are arrange to be married when they are just children. In other places women are seen as property and are legally bound to men as such.In ancient China, women were to be loyal to their husbands as to where the husbands could lie with as many concubines as he pleased.

Even here, marriage is not always done in the name of love and commitment. Some people use it for tax breaks, citizenship in our country, some are even forced to marry or give and take bribes of money in exchange of marriage. In some places, groups such as homosexuals are band to be married in certain states, even if there love i s present. Some people say it "violates the sanctity of marriage", but I think divorce, infidelity, and these unorthodox reasons for marriage are what violates the sanctity of marriage.

Although the standards and expectations have changed for some over time, the legal part of marriage still remains.I think that when people think of marriage they picture a bride, groom and a whole wedding, when in turn this is not the marriage, merely a celebration of it. But a celebration of what?

To be considered married you must have a marriage license, which is a certificate of a contract sign by both individuals not only binding one individual to another, but also binding their legal and financial lives together. Thus when a marriage ends, finances and legalities regarding the previous marriage tend to get hectic and can cause emotional barrier between the couple, their children and their families

Marriage to me is nothing more than a legal binding to another person. When I think of marriage, I think of money, rather than love.Love is not a certificate or money, nor is it a legal binding.I think that if two people are truly in love, they dont need a certificate, wedding or license to prove it to one another. A couple who are truly in love will be together always, married are not as long as they are in love with one another. Love is a binding of two souls, not a binding of two bank accounts.
