Food for Thought: One Day of the Year

Every year there is the high excitement, from at least myself, starting after Halloween rolls around to November, 26. This date, more importantly than anything else is the date of my birthday. I eagerly await its arrival each and every year and cherish in the short twenty-four hour day, after it finally comes.
This year my birthday means even more to, for it is the first day in over three months that I will get to spend with all four of my siblings and my parents. Most people would think that I would prefer to be pampered by them on my birthday, but this is not the case. I love to cook and bake and make sure that everyone else is well fed and happy.
This is my secret guilty pleasure, for it means that I have an opportunity to take a few of my friends who I haven’t seen in awhile. Being away at school and not having a kitchen has been much more difficult than I could ever imagine. This has meant that I cannot make real food and have been stuck with the same old cafeteria options. This is not good enough and for my birthday, I will get the chance to take out my pasta machine, my ice cream maker, and even my mixer, which I have missed so very much.
With these I will create various dishes from scratch. Seeing the metamorphosis of simple ingredients such as flour and eggs slowly advance and build until they turn into something magnificent such as a fresh baked cake out of the oven, is more than enough of a reward for me. Then, fortunately now that I have become a rather good chef, I get to almost always see smiles and happiness from all of the people who try my food. This is just an added bonus to what is already an extraordinary experience.
So when my birthday finally rolls around, I plan on being awake for every minute of it. It is too special of a day to waste. I most certainly do not have any desire to waste a single second of a day that will be filled with warmth despite the temperature outside, love, and happiness.
