Food for Thought: Snow Days Remedy

I was never like the other kids around, I was an only child. Things were always quiet in the house, and when winter came the silence became too loud. My mom always made it a point to show me the first snow flake of the season, something I truly dreaded. I didn't like sledding or snow ball fights, I told you I wasn't like the others. In other towns schools announced that they were closed the night before, mine never did that. Every morning I had to turn on the TV at 4 AM to see if they had canceled it, usually not. Every once in a while I would wake up to the smell of hot chocolate, it gently whispered for me to wake up. Moments later mom would walk in with hot chocolate, toast, and good news. She made everything differently, everything with love. The hot chocolate was sweeter, and richer. The bread so buttery like she let it sit in the oven for a while and the good news, that was always the snow day part. Such simple foods but they taste so different when they're made with love, they kept me warm so that I could easily fall back asleep after I was done. Every snow day she didn't let me down, the hot chocolate, the toast, and the good news were always there.
