I went
through every spectrum for you.
I took the heat
the pain
the burning from the inside out.
I let myself hang
put the noose around my neck,
for you,
put the gun to my head
pulled the trigger,
for you.
I did the dirty work
the breaking
the killing.
I did the suffering
I took the blame
I did the worrying
the anxious
the devastated.
I covered it all
for you.
But more
so much more than that
I waited
for you.
Oh you,
I spent minutes
My heartbeats were counted
to the tempo of yours.
My breath found a way
to echo your name.
My mind fell into
patterns and grooves
places that became
all too familiar
the same thoughts
off the inside of my head
the repetition
building into your name.
It was you, all you
me coming second
as you slowly
took over me.
I gave it all
I gave it up
And you –
What did you do?
You let me.
You watched me fall
let it happen
helped me out
in my downward descent.
You did all that
you brought me down
but in reality
for all my sweat
you did all you had to
by making me fall
for you.
