I Am Grateful For My Mother

Dreams can sometimes be more realistic than reality can be. They have always spoken to me as if they were inspirational figures of mine. On a cold winter night, I shivered like a washing machine spinning clothes dry. I just thought about my mom and how much she meant to me. As I forced myself to sleep, I heard her voice and a terrified one at that. In the dream, I saw a tall man who resembled my dad choking her until she was blue. Her short arms reached for the man’s face in self defense. I constantly heard “get off of me; I have kids to live for!” Although she was microscopic compared to him, she continued to fight to save her life. I interpreted that vision as her fighting to stay alive and tend to me-her child.
There are some moms who would not have fought back, but that is not the mom I have. This dream foreshadowed who she would be to me today. I am beyond grateful for her figure and how she goes about it. One quote that she always uses would be: “Bobby, I will not always be here, but when I do go, you will be just fine.” The fight that she has put up for me can be compared to one “undesirable” against Hitler and his people. Hitler’s final solution was to exterminate all unwanted races. Mom would have been the person to put up a fight before being placed into an internment camp.
Those battles that she fought enable me to stand strong and take on obstacles without a shadow of a doubt that they won’t be solved. In the dream, she tried to pull the man’s arms from around her neck. I am sure it was strenuous, but had she not fought back, she would have been dead and I would be like a ship in the middle of the sea without a destination. I could not have been grateful if she was not graceful. Her attitude towards my destiny stands with me like a husband and wife. She is my train, my road, my route to becoming a stronger young man.
