As the days leading up to the one year anniversary of my grandpa's passing approaches, I am truly convinced that in my mind he was my hero. Grandpa, my admiration for you can truly not be described by words. You were a man of honesty and integrity, and someone who's love was contagious. I could sit down and talk to you about the simplest of things, but it was your company that made every moment so special. Whether it was watching a ball game or getting together for dinner, your presence always gave me a sense of comfort, that sense of comfort in which man craves his whole life.
During our last visit, you last words to me where “ Al, you've come to become one of my best friends.”
And that was when I realized that the feeling within my heart that irrupted at the sound of your voice was a feeling of friendship, a feeling that was stronger than any other force in the world. According to a quote by an unknown author, “ A friend is one who believes in you when you have ceased to believe in yourself.” No matter what, you always believed in me and encouraged me to the best that I could be and that was why our friendship was so inseparable.
So I insure you grandpa, that I will always look after you and our friendship will continue to flourish through my thoughts, memories, and thanks to you, that sense of hope that will never escape from my heart. In my mind, you truly are a hero.
