The Olympic Spirit: Who Cares?!

Apparently the Olympic Games are one of the few or probably the only event which actually unites the world. We might take it for granted because we watch the games behind our television screens, but the spirit of competition, thrill, and joy are for a very rare moment shared among different nationalities expecting the best for their country’s team.
Honestly I am not a sport viewing fanatic not because I don’t enjoy physical activity, but because I would rather be a part of a game than an outside viewer. The only event I honestly respect the most and might watch for a few minutes would be the Olympic Games because the sports are unique, but at the same time traditional, yet I do not remember a time when I have actually viewed the Olympics game entirely. I remember when I was younger how frustrated the Olympic Games would make me feel because my favorite television shows especially the cartoons would not be shown for the Olympic Games. It was the most boring time of the year; I did not understand why people wasted their time watching pointless games which would not benefit them in any way, then I realized cartoons were more pointless. I finally understood the importance of the Olympic Games; the Olympic Games represent the one way the world may not only unite, but challenge their countries athletically. It is a form of healthy entertainment where younger age groups are motivated to join other less common sports which they might find more pleasing and show skill in. For example, I am a track and field athlete and I am a part of a throwing event vast amount of people have no knowledge of, yet it is an ancient sport.
To me it is astounding how the Olympic Games have continued since the Ancient Olympic Games held centuries ago. I sincerely hope future generations continue caring about such a special event that unites the world because we care.
