There's a whine of "I'M BORED!"

It's icky out. You can't go to the pool. The movies and CD-ROMs have been played with too many times.

There's no extra money in the budget for shopping or going out to eat. And if you have to watch one more episode of Sponge Bob, you'll scream.

What's a desperate mom to do?

Here are four easy and CHEAP ideas that just might save your sanity...and actually!

Yes, bring out your inner thespian, as you act out a silly picture book story. You can wear make-shift constumes, create instant sound effects, do different voices...your kids will be enthralled!

As far as cheap craft projects go, you can't beat this one. Hey, your canvas is FREE!

Hunting for the "perfect stone" is often half the fun. Of course, this activity is best carried out at the beach or near a river or lake on a NICE day. (Smooth flat stones work best).

Then you will have all your stones ready and waiting when the rainy day blahs hit.

Paint a white background on your stone, first. After the paint dries, you can draw your picture onto the stone with a Sharpie marker. Next, paint the picture different colors.

After the paint is dry, coat the stone with Mod Podge (available at Michael's crafts). You can also attach googly eyes (good for lady-bug stones), or sprinkle glitter on.

Some more good stone art ideas? Owls, cats, fish,
starfish, sun,or flowers. Or be really creative, and turn a stone into a watermellon wedge!

You don't have to wait for birthdays or holidays to create "hunts" for your kids. Hide anything...lolli-pops and Tootsie-Rolls are always good - and have an indoor, any occassion hunt!

Your hiding places don't need to be elaboarate. In fact, the "treasure" shouldn't be too difficult to find.

Declare a talent show for stuffed animals or dolls! Make a stage out of a box. Now you can enjoy watching (and being) a singing Teddy Bear, a cartwheeling Barbie doll, or a joke-cracking rubber frog.

For even more fun, make a movie out of the talent show for future watching, and have "prizes" for most original, funniest, etc...

Thanks! I love this site! I have been telling everyone about it! Some more boredom busters? Crayola's Model Magic and Mad Libs (for older kids)...also, turning empty boxes into doll houses or "pet abodes" is a fun project....paint the inside of the box....draw on windows and doors with Sharpie markers.....use pieces of carpet samples or tile for floor....and decorate!
