C-Sections are Crazy

I have always thought that C-sections were crazy. I think my wife and I both thought it would never happen to her. We were both pretty confident that with our first baby, she'd be able to push her out fine without having to depend on much medicine to intervene the process. But as many mothers and fathers out there probably know, we can't always get it the way we want it.

Our story is that we began the labor process around 8 on a Tuesday morning, and my wife laid there in that hospital bed until around four or five in the morning the next morning until the doctor came in and decided the baby will need to come out through a C-Section. It was at that point that my wife saw relief.

Perhaps it is too soon to write about the labor process. It is an overwhelming experience, especially for someone who has extremely little tolerance for pain. My wife is around 4 feet and 11 inches, and she was carrying an eight lbs baby who is 20 inches long. I find it pretty amazing that she endured almost 21 hours of contractions, and only dilating 4 centimeters, and then enduring a c-section on top of all of that. And that is crazy, considering they cut you open to get your baby out. There's no sugar coating that. It's really crappy, but the good thing that comes out of it, fortunately, is a healthy baby. And that is all anyone could ask for. We love our newborn daughter. And I think my wife would say that she is worth it. She is worth an incision and a longer healing process.

It seems like no matter how you slice it-excuse the pun-there are negative consequences for each delivery method. I personally feel that I'd want a c section because the delivery process and aftermath of what happens down there scares the heck out of me. One could argue that childbirth itself is crazy!! I mean, it is such an amazing miracle and there are so many body changes and stages that a woman has to go through before that baby is a reality. Says, the person who has yet to have kids!! Congrats on having a healthy baby girl.
