My Dating Site Experience: My Dream Profile
I found myself single after ten wonderful years of marriage.
As an educated person, when I decided to try internet dating I did all the necessary research on creating a profile. After reading a plethora of books and on-line articles, I concluded it was more like building a resume for myself. Too much information gives the prospective suitor ample reason not to want to date you while to little information does not spark curiosity.
My current profile reads something like this:
41-year-old single mother of three. Professionally, I am a chef and a former food columnist. Honest as the day is long. I have a great sense of humor that is rather sarcastic and cynical at times. I love to laugh. I enjoy horror films, comedies, and old movies. I have a wide taste in music, everything from 60’s to current pop. I do not care for the bar scene nor do I care to drink heavily. Looking for an educated man with a good sense of humor and enjoys living life.
After being in the dating world for five very long years, I wish my profile could read is this:
Young 41-year-old single mother of three interesting children. Former preschool and kindergarten teacher turned chef and food columnist (meaning if you are a picky eater or solely a meat and potatoes guy please move on). I am brutally and painfully honest all the time, so if embellishing the truth or lying about yourself is your gig, please move on. I do love to laugh. I am not afraid to laugh at things that are not always funny, because there is always humor in human behavior. I am sarcastic and cynical all the time. I enjoy all movies except war movies and Gran Torino. Just because I love a good horror flick does not mean Platoon qualifies in that category. I love all types of music. My Father was a blues musician for 42 years. I know a thing or two about music. I do not care for the bar scene so if you are still at that stage in your life, please move on.. I do not see how marathon drinking all weekend is a sporting event. I do not karaoke (be thankful for this). I do enjoy a glass of wine now and then, so you having knowledge of wine would be helpful for you. Looking for that man who is college educated, gainfully employed, is happy with himself, understands life baggage is not drama, and enjoys eating ethnically diverse foods. Additional consideration is given if you can text, do not inquire about my need for sex, have no criminal record, and have manners.
Obviously, I abide by the rule less is more. I also suspect this is why I am still single.
