My Thoughts on New Town: A Change is Needed

I believe that the gun control laws need to be enhanced in order to protect the citizens of the United States. With another shooting added to the list it is apparent that some changes need to be made. To start off the United States needs to make it harder for citizens to acquire a gun. Personally I do not think that anyone should be able to own a gun because in the wrong hands it can be disastrous. I think that people who hunt wildlife should be the only ones allowed to purchase a gun. This would decrease the amount of assault rifles in America, which is the main type of gun used in shootings. The background checks currently in place are decent but could be improved. They need to look farther and harder for things like criminal records and mental illnesses. Also, I think that guns kept in a household should be locked up in a safe, with the owner being the only one with the capability to open it. This is important because the owner would have been previously vetted through background checks and been deemed psychologically stable enough to use the weapon. This recent massacre has brought gun control back into the public view and every attempt should be made to make improvements to current gun control laws.
