Now Browsing: Go Green

With each breath I take,
The walls close in.
With each step I take,
The lights grow dim.
A deep breath in,
As I pierce through skin.
The blood brings release,
To the demons within.
I begin to panic,
My breath gets caught.
The blood begins to slow,
And the demons start to laugh.
I soon realize I've fallen,
Into their trap.
But I guess it's,
Just another relapse...

Without any pretense, 2012 was the warmest year on record. Ever. So why isn’t anything happening? As human beings, we tend to have a certain amount of detachment with issues that do not affect us personally. We throw things in the trash without thinking about where they’re going. Who cares about melting ice caps thousands of miles away? So what if the average temperature is three degrees above normal in the U.S.? It doesn’t feel any different! Anyway, there’s nothing I can do to stop it. I’m o

Nuclear power. Solar energy. Wind power. Biomass fuels. High school and college students hear about these and other alternative fuel sources daily. Many students probably think, “Who cares?”, but high school and college students should care because they use fossil fuels daily and because experts predict that fossil fuels will run out in 2060, during today’s students’ life times. So, high school and college students should care more about trying to find renewable energy because they use fossil f

Fracking. I bet you have heard this word before; but do you know the underlying meaning? For instance, fracking acts as a shorthand version for hydraulic fracturing. The definition for hydraulic fracturing: the forcing open of fissures in subterranean rocks by introducing liquid at high pressure, to extract oil or gas. In other words, a machine pumps a mixture of water and chemicals into the ground in order to force out natural gas. Indeed this new method has impacted the economy in a good way,

When my Kindergarten teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I proudly told her “recycling center worker.” Excited by this prospect, I shared my dream with my mother, who was surprised and asked me, “Don’t you want to be an entrepreneur like your dad?”
“But Mo-ommy, I’m going to save the Earth!” I insisted. Staying true to this plan, I became greener than Kermit. I even started monitoring my family each evening to ensure that they didn’t run the water while brushing their t

Everyone has a time in their life when they feel like they can be fearless. Usually these are the times that are the most memorable, good or bad. I remember back in eighth grade I thought that I could do whatever I want and I realized I was wrong. I was always the nice smart kid that everyone liked. That all changed once I started hanging out with the wrong people. Now these "friends" made me feel fearless and I never noticed how much I was changing in just months. So, I was alone at the time

Dan Garcia's How-To Guide to Life
Part One: How to [Not] be Normal

This is a fiction short story.

I am Dan. I know, I know: you might as well say Dan I am. Can’t get much more ordinary than that. To sweeten the deal, my name is Dan Garcia. Garcia. Garcia! Can you believe it?

In case you were wondering (which you probably weren’t, but I’m going to tell you anyway), Garcia happens to be the eighteenth most common name in the entir

In many cases, when tragedy occurs people tend to react too quickly. They make decisions without thinking them through. The shooting in Newtown was very tragic, but I think that people are making too big of a deal out of it. Rushing a bill into Congress to prohibit guns in the United States is not going to stop all the gun violence. The leaders of our country need to take their time and come up with a plan that will be effective. If they do not, then it is not going to do anything, but cause mo

Let’s just go ahead and clear the elephant in the room, should guns be legal or illegal? I personally believe guns should be legal to own by good, honest Americans. What I mean by good and honest people is people without a violent criminal record. Also people with past mental illness should not be allowed to own any type of gun. Why punish a majority of the good hardworking people for a few crazies in the world whom choose to shoot up elementary schools and other public places.

Some people blame the government for giving an easy access to guns. Others blame Hollywood movies, social media, and/or violent video games. There are countless other conspiracies, but I have my own. Mine is basically a mix of all of them. It has a little to do with everything.

To get into dissecting this mess, let's go up to bat with a fantastic key element: Adam Lanza's mother was a gun enthusiast. He had the most readily available selection of weaponry that he had no complications
