When I was younger, I wanted to be exactly like my mother. I would walk through the local mall, one tiny hand clenched tightly around her elegant fingers. While her gaze would flit from window to window, mine would be concentrated on our feet. I wanted to time our steps so that the graceful clip of her heels would sound with the ungainly clunk of my uncoordinated sneakers. Her legs were longer than mine, but I sometimes managed to harmonize our discordant echoes. And for that one moment, I w

My mother told me she was getting help about six months ago. It’s been almost four years since I’ve thought she’s ended, but she’s slipped up a few times. My mother began to stick up for herself, and do things for herself that she wouldn’t do before. She would support her boyfriend, a man, but not a proper “man”, who would lie in bed all day watching TV, and make no attempt to find a job. He didn’t want one, and he also didn’t want to do anything with his life. My mother supported him for four

The idea of bragging, or boasting, is often frowned upon by society. We shouldnt boast, we shouldnt brag, we shoud remain humble at all times. It's quite difficult though, when you have a mom like mine. I can't stay humble, or quiet, I just can't deny that I have been blessed with the absolute best.
My mother is a brave soul. She migrated from Mexico in the 1990's. She left behind all of her family, she left behind the only life she had ever known. Thrown into an unknown land, she le

Dear mom,
Please stop telling people you’re my younger sister. Because the truth is, you really aren’t as annoying as I say (oh, I mean scream) you are. And there may be the slight possibility that I need your help as I get through the last year of my high school career. After all, who else can jog my memory of all the positive attributes to gloat about on my Harvard application, all while never reminding me that yes, this was the girl that once accidently shaved of her eyebrow and then t

Letter to Mom: Love with all My Heart
My mom has played a huge role in molding me to be the person I am. Since the day I was born, I have relied on my mom for guidance and developing my morals that make me, me. She continues to push me to do my absolute best every day, physically, academically, and socially. But as I mature, I will become less and less dependent on my mother and will use what I have learned to begin a life of my own, away from my family. My utmost appreciation goes tow

Dear Mom,
Sometimes, I enjoy closing my eyes and simply listening to your sighs and the occasional sizzle of the pan as crisp shallots meander their way into the crackling pool of oil. The little noises in life; even the soft clucking of your tongue as you write checks to the bank, are songs to me. Some people think that I'm crazy, but what these people don't understand is that the obsession with music derives entirely from your six o'clock cello lessons.
It's definitely not the color

With each breath I take,
The walls close in.
With each step I take,
The lights grow dim.
A deep breath in,
As I pierce through skin.
The blood brings release,
To the demons within.
I begin to panic,
My breath gets caught.
The blood begins to slow,
And the demons start to laugh.
I soon realize I've fallen,
Into their trap.
But I guess it's,
Just another relapse...

My mom is truly the most important woman in my life. She is my rock, my greatest supporter. No matter what I do, my mom is always there to support me. Even when I want to give up, she is always there to push me, to help me to reach that goal. She is always there to comfort me and to encourage me to become better. However, the most important quality she has is that she is always a person I can trust and can confide my thoughts with. She is truly the rock in my life.
My mom is a rock, always

“Nina, turn off the TV and start learning for your exams. You know how important they are, after all they decide your career blablah………..” I zoned out after that. Because honestly, I think I have been hearing those sentences even before I actually was in tenth. And exams are like, two months away! School has just started.

Although, it feels like I have been stuck here since forever. We are already overloaded with tons of homework and projects. Someone said back in the ninth, “Tenth i

When we label policy as “foreign” or “domestic”, we inadvertently create the feeling that these are two separate spheres of politics. In fact, foreign and domestic policy are nearly always debated separately, with the focus cleanly and clearly jumping from other nations and continents to the heart of American society. But in the modern era of globalization, thinking of these as separate spheres causes use to lose sight of the grander scope of international relations and how, like a spider web,
