Netown: A Harsh Reality America Has to Face

After the horrific Newtown school shooting in Connecticut, it is the government's job to pass stricter gun laws and help the mentally ill so they do not resort to violence. Many gun right's advocates complain that gun control infringes upon their second amendment rights. However, the second amendment says the need for a well regulated militia and does not mention self-defense. Also, when the constitution was written, it was a much different time than it is today. In today's modern times, there is no need for militias and there is no possibility of the government becoming a dictatorship. There is no need to "prepare" for these circumstances. With more guns in circulation, there is a higher possibility that they fall into the wrong hands. Also, armed guards are not necessarily the answer because Columbine High School had one and the perpetrators were able to bypass him. The answer is to have fewer guns and not more.
