I'm training for a 5K. I say that rather half-heartedly. In reality, my 5 week daily training program has become a I'll-go-run-when-I-can-drag-my-butt-off-the-couch-long-enough-to-start-stretching sort of plan. I go to bed every night, wake up every morning repeating the mantra "I will fulfill my training requirements." But mostly, it's been a toss up as to the follow through.
Am I just that lacking in perseverence? That I can't even take half an hour of a 12 hour summer day to train. If you want to talk sad statistics, that's 2% of the day. But I still can't drag myself away from my laptop to pull on my running shoes.
Maybe it's just the summer mentality. After a grueling last two months of school, that first week of June was like walking through Avalon. No homework, watching Friends reruns, laying out by the pool, staying out late with friends. I've got plenty of time, I'm just plugging it by doing thoroughly unproductive activities.
My 5K is in 12 days. If anyone's in the Franklin area, feel free to come out and watch me stagger across the finish line, or have an asthmatic attack midway through. Or, if I can seek out some driving motivation, watch me cruise through with satisfaction.
