Teen Pregnancy Prevention: Media Distractions Lead to Fewer Pregnancies

In the age we are in currently teenagers see people their age pregnant everywhere. It is extremely common to see a sixteen year old girl who got pregnant and now is on a tv show on MTV. Although this may sound like a glamorous and fun lifestyle it truly isn’t. As teenagers watch the show they witness how much pain, physically and emotionally the girl is going through. The pain that the girl and her family have to suffer through as a result of having a baby at such a young age scares many teenagers and they decide against having a child. The tv shows bring the results of having a baby to view and considering the girl on the show used to be just like us it is that much more relatable and it works better in convincing teenagers not to have children.
Another reason for teen pregnancies going down is the amount of games and websites on the internet that take up most of the teenager’s time. As a teenager myself I know that there are many addicting websites that I am tempted to check every day at hourly intervals such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and much more. I know from experience that with all these social media websites and games I have to specifically put aside time to study and do my homework. This is common and applicable to almost any teenager and when they have so many things that seem so important to us now, like updating our Tumblr blog, we simply rule out the option of having a child because it would take time away from our social media. This generation of teenagers is so wound up in technology and internet and they don’t deny it. It is such a big part in their lives that I can guarantee that most teenagers would choose to have time on the internet over having a child any day.
A third and final reason for teen pregnancies going down is the sudden rise in teenage boy bands. Teenage girls spend most of their time talking to their friends about the newest pop stars and worrying about if they can get the concert tickets or the newest piece of merchandise. Also the pop stars are perfected to be extremely attractive to a massive amount of teenage girls so much to the extent that no other boy near the girls could even come close to comparing to them.
Ultimately as a result of many different media and pop culture sources teenage girls have been too distracted on other things to even have the thought of having a child.
