Things that are consistently changing in our world are morals, principles and the frequency of them being practice. There are several reasons why teens today are less likely to become pregnant. Teens have things like older generations, a better education system, outrageous TV shows, and a guilty conscience to thank.
All generations will be looked down upon by the previous generations that came before them. Teenagers all have grandparents and parents that they spend quality time with. Teenagers listen about what it was like when their grandparents “remember when I was your age” stories. Teenagers have role models and family members to look up to and to create a lifestyle similar to theirs. It makes sense to follow these older generations because they have lived longer and have experienced what most teens come to inherit in their lives. This older generation is able to share their knowledge of how to deal with these difficult situations. It is not likely than an older relative would encourage becoming a mother at the age of sixteen. This is why it’s always important to respect elders because they have a lot of positive influence in a teen’s life.
Another cause of the decline of pregnancy is because today children and teens receive a very exceptional education in school. Students are offered more rigorous classes in order for them to better themselves and challenge themselves to become more advanced. Classes like health and sex education are a requirement in some schools which reaches out to many teens that are unaware of the horrible consequences that come along with being pregnant as a teenager. As students decide to take more classes and finish their education they become fairy occupied with the amount of homework and assignments they receive every night and find that their spare time is limited. While they are improving their education they are also enhancing their common sense of making wise decisions in life. Education is a limiting factor that stands in between making an educated decision or a spontaneous regret.
Television has an immense effect on how teenagers view popular culture. Reality shows and characters in movies or shows that get pregnant demonstrate the pros but mostly cons of becoming a teen mother. Kids know that being pregnant is something to look forward too when they’re older which is the reason for putting that blown up balloon under their shirt and pretending to be a mommy. As kids become teenagers they watch hours of media and videos of the distasteful life of a teen mom and can use their conscience to understand that this life is undesirable. They may have thought pregnancy was always this fascinating and exciting step in their life and that they should begin early, but television has proven them wrong.
Teenagers build, through years of their lives, the recognition of right and wrong. They have listened to older family, seen shows, and have given themselves and education in order to help the rate of teenage pregnancy drop.
