The teenage years are the golden years. First kisses, first cars, prom, running around being young, wild, and free. Why would anyone want to grow up? One way to grow up really fast is to get pregnant; nothing gives you more of a reality check than something that is unplanned. More teens nowadays are preventing teenage pregnancies by using contraceptives, which they learn about from sex education and from TV shows like Teen Mom and 16 and pregnant.
When I first saw Teen Mom 2, I laughed and was caught up in the drama of these poor girls' lives. But when I sat back and thought about it, I really felt bad for them. Watching their lives unravel at the seams made me never want to become pregnant until I am absolutely ready. Also, because sex education is being taught in schools, more teens are learning the methods of safe sex, like birth control and condoms. Let's face it, if a teen wants to have sex, you're not going to stop them. Abstinence is a good goal, but not all kids are going to abide by it. Contraceptives are a great way not to get pregnant, while at the same time being healthy by preventing different STD's.
Because of the media like TV and computers, teens are getting to gain more knowledge about sex and how to stay safe. I think this is the reason that teenage pregnancies are declining. I think that it's great; why start your life so early when you could be out living? Us as teens need to experience life before getting pregnant; traveling, living on our own, making our own mistakes.
