Love. We use the word to express a strong liking. But is that truly what love is? I sat down to write a story about what love is, to discover I haven’t the faintest clue. People always ask, “How would you describe love?” To that, I can only tell you that I can’t describe love. Love. It’s such a deep thing. So much more than just a four letter word. It goes so much farther than anything physical. When you love someone, you’re entire body can truly feel it. You see that person and your body reacts. First, your heart speeds up, along with your breathing. Your stomach fills with butterflies. Your knees go weak. You start to tremble. In just a split second. It seems like such a silly way to react to someone we have strong feelings for. Our bodies leave us weak; the second we connect, we regain our ground and feel like we’re flying. Our hearts still races, breath still matching it. Our stomachs still flutter, especially at the slightest touch of their skin. We still tremble. But when we’re with them, we feel invincible, no matter how weak our bodies seem. When we’re apart from them, our hearts literally ache. You can feel it longing for its other half. However, the time apart makes the time together so much better, sends you so much higher.
In just one minute, that love can be shattered. Someone loses the high. Someone loses the flying feeling. And they shatter the other person into pieces that will take years to recover, but will never truly heal. That’s the worst part of love: being able to feel your heart break. Maybe not literally breaking, but as bad as it hurts, it might as well. Then, love becomes misery. It becomes hard to breathe because you’re experiencing so much pain. There are always these two sides to love. Therefore, how can you define it? It can be the most exhilarating, amazing feeling on this planet, but on the other hand, it can be the most painful, depressing one as well. One thing I believe about love is you never truly stop loving someone. You either always will or never truly did. While the way you love a person might change, you still feel for them, even if they shattered you. Love is one of the most potent drugs, one we know absolutely nothing about. One that is absolutely unexplainable and indefinable.
