Sometimes, our children surprise us and make us happy to be parents. Here's a short story about one such proud moment in my parenting life.
We joined a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm a few years ago, and were delighted with the farm-fresh veggies and fruit. In the spring and early summer, we ate a lot of greens, which didn't always thrill my children.
When my second daughter was around 4, she had a green lollipop for the first time (not a candy household, that's for sure!). I asked her what flavor it was, and, with a huge grin on her face, announced it was kale.
Now I'm sure the lollipop manufacturer didn't mean for its green flavor to taste like kale, but if licking a kale-flavored lollipop made my daughter happy, then perhaps they should consider adding that as a flavor. It might just entice more children to eat their greens....
