I remember when I first signed up for Facebook. I was in 8th grade, and boy, did I have no idea how much it would change my life. I suddenly found myself at the computer for hours on end surfing the site. Sometimes I can't tell whether or not Facebook is good or bad. On the plus side, you get to connect with childhood buddies, family, and friends on the other end of the globe. On the flip side, Facebook suddenly distances everybody. Instead of going out, per se, you could go on Facebook chat and discuss the day over the keyboard instead of coffee!
It's nice when you log onto Facebook and see a friend from elementary school added you! Seeing how they have changed and finding out where they live and how their life is like is a nice experience. It helps keep you connected and remember that even though you don't see that person, communicating with them is just at your fingertips!
I can't deny that it's wonderful when I see come across a long lost friend; however, I feel so alienated with the communication. It's just not the same face to face. You might be telling person all about yourself on Facebook, but when you see them in person you realize you don't know all that much. Eye contact and gauging a person's reaction is just not possible on Facebook.
I suppose the right thing to do is to keep Facebook at a minimum. To find old friends and new people you meet on Facebook is just fine, but one needs to figure out when enough is enough and when to call them up to hang out!
